Good Life Dog Walking was founded in 2015 with one key principle, to look after your dog how we would want a dog-walker to look after ours. Since then, after going on thousands of walks with hundreds of dogs, we continue to strive to make your dog as happy as can be.
Hello, I’m Gail.
My love for dogs and nature began when I was five, and my parents brought home a Beagle named Cindy. We started exploring the local woods and parks together, and the whole family fell in love with nature and the outdoors.
Cindy was my best friend growing up. She joined me on my paper rounds, walked with friends who had dogs and came with us on holiday every year. Being an early riser, we were often out exploring before anyone else was up! Cindy passed away when I was 22. I had two dogs of my own by then, but the whole family was heartbroken when she died.
In the years since, my dogs have been with me on many more adventures. They’ve trotted alongside me while horse riding, tried out agility and flyball and we got lost many times when my map reading wasn’t quite up to scratch. Whatever we do, we have fun together.
In the 2010s, I was passionate about canicross—the art of staying upright while being pulled along by one or two dogs over rough ground as fast as possible! A broken ankle and the inevitable ageing of the hounds brought that part of my life to an end in 2018, which is when I discovered scentwork and took up mantrailing (training your dog to find a hidden person from a scent article).
My elderly Beagle, Bella, loved it, as do the two younger hounds to this day! Coco, our newest rescue terrier, has had a go and seems to love it too!
Herbie and Beauregard are also pretty awesome at scent detection and compete regularly in both Scentwork UK and National Nosework Association trials.
We regularly walk at local beauty spots such as Teversal, Brierley Forest, Thieves Wood, Blidworth Wood, Portland Park, Newstead Abbey, Rufford Country Park and many more.
So, if you’d like to take advantage of my love of dogs and walking, please give me a call. The more, the merrier……
Hi, I’m Brett, Gail’s partner, and like her, I too grew up with a dog. His name was King, a beautiful, soft-as-grease Labrador/Alsatian cross. Technically, he belonged to my grandparents, but as they only lived across the road, we inevitably grew up together. In later years, King lived with Mum and me, passing away when I was a teenager. I still miss him to this day.
Having supported Gail with establishing the business, I eventually took some time off from my 30-year printing career to help out when she broke her ankle. I never went back to the factory, and now my office, like hers, is the great outdoors.
I’m often accompanied on walks by my slightly crazy Greek rescue, Jackson, who is good company for both myself and the dogs I’m walking.
Outside of the business, I’m a volunteer at Kings Mill hospital, where I present a live radio show as well as coordinating the other radio presenters. I perform with the Mansfield Hospitals theatre troupe, who raise thousands for local charities by producing an annual pantomime.
A passionate historian, when not doing any of the above, you will find me at Victorian living history events.
